Like most other geographical divisions of NM, there are no provisions for an online arrest warrant search in San Juan County. While all other public records, including information on property ownership, marriage, divorce, and death, are made available online, you will have to approach a state office in person for a criminal history search.

Information on arrest warrants from San Juan County is kept by the police as well as judicial agencies. The sheriff’s office holds information on arrest records and active warrants because they place the formal request before a local tribunal, which eventually leads to the issue of warrants.

Also, cops are held responsible for serving all legal directives, including orders for arrests. Because such orders grant special authority to peace officers when effecting the detention of an offender, these decrees are highly sought after. In the state’s judicial network, the magistrate’s offices and court clerk keep details on outstanding warrants and custodial detentions.

Of these two, the magistrate’s court has discretionary authority regarding judicial directives, be they bench warrants or active orders for arrest. This means that the power to release a warrant or deny the police petition ultimately rests with the magistrate, who will take a call based on the evidence brought before the bench. So, to conduct an inquiry into criminal history, you can drive down to:

  • The sheriff: 211 S Oliver Dr. Aztec, New Mexico 87410
  • The magistrate: 496 W National St, Las Vegas, NM 87701
  • The clerk of court: 100 S Oliver Dr. Suite 200, Aztec, New Mexico 87410
